Stations worth knowing

The station’s importance predates the 2012 Games, but Olympic investment made its role as a metropolitan gateway visible to a global audience.

Its long platform frontage mirrors the way the terminus expanded in stages rather than from a single finished masterplan.

The modern interchange makes the neighbouring termini function as one transport place, even though King’s Cross and St Pancras retain separate main-line identities.

Bank and Monument are operationally linked, but TfL retains their separate station identities; this dataset does the same.

Despite its name, the station stands in Battersea rather than in the centre of Clapham.

Rebuilding the station while trains kept running required the operational railway to be rearranged in carefully sequenced stages.
