中野駅

Nakano Station opened in 1889 on the railway axis that would become the Chūō line. Its position west of Shinjuku accompanied the rapid urbanization of Nakano and the establishment of numerous cultural facilities. Since 1966, trains of the Tozai line have run directly onto the JR East tracks: some terminate at Nakano, while others continue on the Chūō-Sōbu line. This continuity gives the station an unusual mode of operation, where subway and conventional railway share part of their infrastructure. To the north, Nakano Sun Mall and Nakano Broadway have built a strong commercial identity; new urban developments continue to transform the area around the station.

Nakano is one of the few places where a Tokyo Metro train can continue directly onto JR tracks. For the traveler, the boundary between the two networks is sometimes crossed without changing platform or train.
