明治神宮前〈原宿〉駅

Meiji-jingumae opened in 1972 with the Chiyoda line, at the edge of the Harajuku district and Omotesando avenue. The Fukutoshin line joined it in 2008, strengthening north-south travel between Ikebukuro, Shibuya, and the suburban networks. The station lies immediately beside Harajuku Station on the Yamanote line and at the entrance to the Meiji Shrine. Its accesses also serve Takeshita-dori, the fashion boutiques, and the contemporary architecture of Omotesando. It thus links two very different images of the district: the forest of the shrine and the intense urban culture of Harajuku.

Since 2010, Tokyo Metro has displayed the secondary name "Harajuku" on its signage. This addition helps visitors understand the immediate proximity to the JR station, even though the two stations keep distinct identities.
